Biobanks increasingly generate valuable molecular data across institutions, but data-sharing restrictions, governance requirements, and differences in sample processing can make joint analysis difficult. Bio One Scientific is developing computational approaches for collaborative analysis of distributed biobanking and omics datasets. Our work includes federated learning approaches that allow models to be trained across participating datasets without requiring institutions to centralize raw specimen-level data.

Our current research focuses on decoupled federated learning approaches for separating shared pre-analytical effects from site-specific variation. This includes evaluation using controlled metagenomic datasets and heterogeneous human omics data. The approach is intended for research and methodological development. Actual deployment across institutions would depend on the participating biobanks' data governance, security, infrastructure, and regulatory requirements.

Our services focus on the isolation, characterization, preservation, documentation, and supply of appropriately sourced microbial cultures, subject to applicable biosafety, regulatory, ethical, and access requirements.
Microbial Isolation & Biobanking
Isolation and preservation of microbial cultures from appropriately authorized sources. Resources may include environmental, agricultural, food-associated, extremophilic, and other non-clinical microorganisms suitable for research or educational applications.
Culture Supply
Provision of selected, documented microbial cultures for research, teaching, screening, and biotechnology development, subject to availability, suitability, and applicable restrictions.
Microbial Characterization
Identification and characterization services including phenotypic assessment, biochemical profiling, molecular identification, and selected functional screening.
Research & Biotechnology Support
Support for microbial discovery and applications in areas such as biofertilizer research, fermentation, bioconversion, enzyme discovery, biopolymer production, environmental biotechnology, and microbial biotechnology.
We maintain records relating to microbial identity, source, characterization, preservation, and associated research information where available.
Microbial resources are handled and supplied according to their biological characteristics, provenance, intended use, and applicable regulatory requirements. Resources may be subject to Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs), use restrictions, biosafety requirements, or other conditions of access.
Where a client's intended research or application requires permits, ethical approval, regulatory authorization, or other institutional or governmental clearance, the client is responsible for obtaining the approvals applicable to their proposed use. Bio One Scientific will provide relevant resource and provenance information needed to support the appropriate process.
We do not supply microbial resources for unauthorized environmental release, clinical use, or other applications outside their permitted scope.
The Bio One Microbial Biobank Framework provides a structured approach for the collection, documentation, characterization, preservation, and responsible use of microbial resources. The framework is intended to support the long-term conservation of selected microorganisms and make appropriately documented resources available for research, education, agriculture, food biotechnology, and other scientific applications. Each resource is managed according to its provenance, biological characteristics, biosafety considerations, intended use, and applicable legal and ethical requirements. Where required, access, transfer, research, or commercial use remains subject to the relevant institutional and regulatory approvals.
